Volunteering

Want to enrich your own life & the lives of others?
Spread the love of reading and learning, curiosity, and improve your local Kern County Library branch! Join hundreds of other volunteers across Kern County who share their time, skills, and energy to strengthen their community’s Library.

Become a Volunteer

  1. Review Library Hours & Locations
  2. There are several ways to begin volunteering at the Kern County Library:
Complete an Online Application
Attend a Volunteer Orientation
Volunteer Orientation events can be found online in our events calendar. Larger branches hold periodic or monthly volunteer orientations. If there isn’t a volunteer orientation available at your branch, contact the branch and apply to volunteer in-person. You do not need to attend a Volunteer Orientation to volunteer with the Kern County Library.
Apply for Opportunities Through VolunteerMatch
VolunteerMatch is a great way to discover volunteer opportunities that we are in immediate need of. It is also a simple & secure way to immediately apply to volunteer online. Volunteer opportunity locations are noted in the volunteer listing. Search the listings now!
Complete a Paper Application In-Person at Your Library Branch
You may apply to volunteer at any Kern County Library branch. To apply, approach and speak with a library staff member about volunteer opportunities specific to that Library branch.
