National History Day
About National History Day
National History Day (NHD) is an educational program devoted to improving the teaching and learning of history in American schools. Starting in the fall, students choose a topic related to an annual theme, conduct extensive primary and secondary research, and present their work in original papers, exhibits, performances, and documentaries. These works are entered into competitions in the spring at local, state, and national levels. The program culminates with the national competition in the summer.
National History Day 2009
The 2009 theme for National History Day is The Individual in History: Actions and Legacies. Stories of individuals in history are compelling but pose a challenge for a
National History Day project. While working with a theme, students must
move beyond biographies and descriptions of specific people or events
and demonstrate how that person's actions had an impact on history.
More information and resources are available at the official
National History Day website.
