Beale Memorial Library

CLASS TOURS: Elementary school classes may schedule a tour on Wednesday morning, please call (661) 868-0750. Secondary school classes may schedule a tour on Friday mornings, please call (661) 868-0770. Please call your local branch for additional tour dates.
Fri	all	10:30 a.m.	Preschool storytime for ages 5-8 years old
Sat	2-6	10 a.m. - 12 p.m.	Read-To-Me: A storytime for toddlers and tweens. Volunteers share their favorite children's stories during an informal storytime. Stop by for one or stay and listen to many, enjoy the pleasure of a beloved story well told. This program is a partnership of Kern County Library and the "Give a Day, Get a Disney Day" project. Fri	2-12, 2-26	2 - 4 p.m.	Volunteer Orientation: Do you have an hour or two to spare? Support the library & volunteer! To reserve a seat for these meetings, please call 661-868-0746. Lake Room. For information about volunteer opportunities in your area, call your local branch.
Sat	2-13	11 a.m.	2010 Harlem & Beyond Family Storytime - Anasi the Spider and Other Tales from the African American Tradition. Arkelian Children's Room.
Tue	2-16	4 - 5 p.m.	TAG! Teen Advisory Meeting: Teens, would you like to have some input into what materials and programs the library should have for young adults? Open to students in grades 7 - 12. Call (661) 868-0745 for more information. Lake Room, 1st floor.
Fri	2-19	6 - 9 p.m.	2010 Harlem & Beyond: Langston Hughes Poetry Reading with Wayne Cook - Music provided by jazz musician Glen Fong. In partnership with the Arts Council of Kern. This program is free and open to the public, donations will be accepted to the Arts Council of Kern. Auditorium.
COMPUTER CLASSES: All computer classes are free and open to the public. Class size is limited to 20, first come, first seated. Beale Memorial Library, Gates Computer Lab, 2nd Floor, 701 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301. Call the Beale Reference Desk, (661) 868-0770 for more information. NOTE: Computer Lab is closed 30 minutes before and after classes.
Sat	2-6	10 a.m. - 12 p.m.	Computer Basics: Keyboard & Mouse. For beginners only! Learn the basic functions of point & click, drag & drop, function keys, and shortcuts.
Sat	2-13	10 a.m. - 12 p.m.	Microsoft Excel 2003, Session 1. Intermediate class, introduces basic Excel worksheet functions: calculating, columns, rows, charts, and more.
Thu	2-18	3 - 5 p.m.	Microsoft Excel 2003, Session 2. Intermediate class, continues with basic Excel functions: multiple worksheets, merge & center, cell formatting, and more.
Sat	2-20	10 a.m. - 12 p.m.	Basic Internet. Learn to use the internet like a pro.
Thu	2-25	3 - 5 p.m.	Email. Creating an email account is easy! We will walk you through the steps.
Sat	2-27	10 a.m. - 12 p.m.	Microsoft Excel 2003, Session 3. Advanced class, conditional formatting, auditing formulas, and other math functions.
