Upcoming Events in October: Literary Kern, October 12-16

Cultivating the Art of Writing Locally and Beyond - Literary Kern is a week long celebration of the art of writing. The purpose is to connect readers and writers for a series of programs that will include a variety of panels, workshops, and events at venues around the county. The panels and workshops will cover topics such as local history research, trends in publishing, the writing process and children's and young adult programs. Sponsored by the Friends of the Kern County Library, Inc., in collaboration with community partners.

Wed   10 a.m. Library Tours - Elementary school classes call the Arkelian Children's Room, (661) 868-0750.

Thu 9/16 11 a.m. One Book One Bakersfield...One Kern - A Community-Wide Read of Burro Genius, by Victor Villaseñor, in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Event takes place in front of the Beale Memorial Library.
Fri 9/17 3:30 p.m. TAG! Teen Advisory Group Meeting. Lake Room, 1st Floor.
Sat 9/18 11 a.m. Reflections of Our Past: Shades of Kern County - The Kern County Library was awarded a grant that allowed the Library to digitize 200 photographs in the Historical Collection. Join Local History Librarian, Chris Livingston for a discussion and viewing of the stories behind the images from Kern County's past. Tejon Room, 2nd floor.
Wed 9/22 3:30 p.m. Battle at the Beale - Afterschool Prep for the Battle of the Books, 2011. Grades 4-8. Auditorium.

Fri 9/24 3:30 p.m. Trick Out Your Textbook - Book covers for teens. Lake Room, 1st floor.
Free Computer Classes
Gates Computer Lab, 2nd floor. All classes are open to the public. Seating is limited to 20, first come, first seated. All classes except Computer Basics require proficiency with keyboard and mouse. The Lab is closed 30 min. before and after each class.
